Defense Requests to Interrogate Former Supreme Court Official in Argentina

Buenos Aires, April 11 (NA) – The defense of judicial operator Santiago Busaniche requested that Justice summon former Supreme Court General Administrator Héctor Daniel Marchi to testify, after his name emerged in the statement of a repentant individual in a corruption case in Rosario.

The motion was filed in the "Bailaque Marcelo Martín and others" case file, where the seizure of Marchi's phone and his release from the oath to tell the truth due to the possibility of self-incrimination were also requested, according to the Argentine News Agency.

The request also includes the summoning of Marchi's sister and all individuals who worked with him at the Supreme Court since 2019, especially secretaries, assistants, and advisors, for which they have requested information from the highest court.

Similarly, the defense demanded measures to investigate the former official's investments through the Financial Information Unit (UIF) and the details of his phone lines and communications since 2019, within the framework of the investigation into alleged extortion schemes.

Marchi's name appeared in the case following the testimony of former Santa Fe AFIP head Carlos Vaudagna, who identified him as "el colorado" (the redhead) in conversations with Busaniche, which were recorded and incorporated into the case file.

The main accused in the case is former judge Marcelo Bailaque, for whom prosecutors requested a 10-year prison sentence for crimes related to judicial corruption, while for Busaniche, a six-year sentence was estimated for his alleged participation as an intermediary.

In parallel, the investigation also involves financier Fernando Whpei and judge Gastón Salmain, whose prosecution with preventive detention was recently confirmed by the Rosario Federal Chamber in relation to bribery and extortion schemes.
